• Prepare and deliver sermons for Sunday morning and Sunday evening worship services.
  • Teach an adult Bible class on Sunday mornings for at least three quarters of the year.
  • Teach a Wednesday evening Bible class for at least two to three quarters of the year.
  • Offer periodic special-topic classes once or twice per year on a weekday evening.
  • Visit sick, bereaved, and shut-in members to encourage them.
  • Communicate member needs to the benevolence deacon or elders for appropriate follow-up.
  • Conduct funeral services when requested by members of the congregation.
  • Counsel members experiencing marriage, family, or spiritual difficulties.
  • Work with the elders to help connect members with professional counseling resources when severe emotional or mental health concerns are present.
  • Engage in community outreach.
  • Help develop evangelism opportunities that encourage member participation.
  • Teach and coordinate home Bible studies.
  • Train and encourage members to be active in personal evangelism.
  • Meet with the elders monthly to maintain open communication and to work cooperatively in planning spiritual development activities.
  • Work with team leaders to help develop fellowship opportunities and promote member involvement.
  • Encourage children and work with the deacon overseeing youth to help provide spiritual development, recreational activities, and fellowship opportunities.
  • Take appropriate vacation time.
  • Rotate teaching responsibilities when needed to avoid neglecting family responsibilities and to help
    prevent burnout.

The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  1. Have either a two-year degree from a recognized school of preaching or a four-year degree from a Christian college with a major in Biblical Studies.
  2. Have a minimum of six years of experience serving as a pulpit minister, associate minister, or youth minister.
  3. Be proficient in Microsoft Office software, including the ability to prepare PowerPoint presentations, write professional correspondence, and complete related administrative tasks without the need for secretarial assistance.
  4. Be self-motivated and self-directed, requiring minimal assistance from the elders in maintaining a full and productive work schedule.
  5. Possess exceptional speaking skills and the ability to communicate confidently before diverse groups of individuals.
  6. Have no history of criminal, financial, sexual misconduct, or substance abuse.
  7. Be able to work well with people of diverse racial, educational, financial, and social backgrounds.
  8. Have a good reputation both within and outside the church.
  9. Be committed to teaching from Scripture only and willing to refute error.

The Pulpit Minister should be a spiritually mature, faithful, and service-minded man who is committed to preaching the gospel, strengthening the congregation, encouraging evangelism, and working cooperatively with the elders for the spiritual well-being of the church.
